A total of 40,643 visitors arrived in Macau on Thursday, up 160% from the daily average of 2022. Of these, 32,148 were from mainland China, up 130% from last year’s daily average, while 7,345 visitors came from Hong Kong, up 406%.
Thursday’s figure was the highest daily tally since border restrictions were eased on 8 January, despite more than 100,000 people passing through on the first three days of reopening combined.
It is also expected the daily figure will keep rising with the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) having launched a transportation ticket offer for those travelling from Hong Kong to Macau, with all Hong Kong visitors staying at least one night receiving their return ferry or bus ticket for free.
“The concessions launched on Friday will further attract Hong Kong residents to visit Macau and encourage them to spend more time in Macau,” the MGTO said.
“Over 40,000 visitors arrived in Macau on Thursday, the first time this year that more than 40,000 visitors were recorded, and with a series of Chinese New Year events scheduled for the city, the number of visitors is expected to continue to rise.”
