MGM Cotai – the Cotai integrated resort operated by MGM China – has just been locked down.
Government health workers are currently on the scene after a positive COVID-19 case was identified on site. The case in question is a 43-year-old female dealer who worked on October 26 and 27, the government has confirmed. It has also been revealed that the woman’s two sons tested positive this morning.
IAG is on the scene and has verified that MGM Cotai is now locked down with no-one allowed to enter or exit the building.
It has been confirmed that the casino, hotel, restaurants and shops have now all been closed and all gatherings at the hotel suspended. Oktoberfest Macau, which saw hundreds gather to celebrate less than 24 hours earlier, is also temporarily closed.
It is unclear when MGM may reopen or whether it may be declared a yellow or red zone, however the government has only moments ago announced that everyone in Macau will be required to undergo daily citywide testing from today until this Tuesday, 1 November.
IAG understands that all casino staff, hotel staff and hotel guests will be isolated in situ immediately through until 1 November, while anyone who happened to be visiting the property at the time of lockdown or who spent more than 30 minutes there between 27 and 29 October will have their Macau health code turn yellow for seven days, in which time they will be required to take five tests.
Inside Asian Gaming was sent the above video showing two men trying to flee the scene with a Macau health worker chasing them across a busy street. The duo was later captured and escorted back to the property.
In response to IAG’s inquiries, an MGM spokesperson said, “In support of pandemic prevention measures of the Macau SAR government, MGM will work closely with the Health Bureau and the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau, and carry out all necessary preventive actions to reduce the risk of transmission.”
