The number of confirmed positive cases of COVID-19 since the continuing Macau outbreak began on 19 June has reached 941, with 89 new positive cases detected in the past 24 hours. This represents an increase on the 68 cases reported on Monday.
Of the 89 new cases, 66 were found in the community and 23 were found amongst people in quarantine, according to the Novel Coronavirus Response and Coordination Center.
As at 8am Tuesday 5 July, a total of 13,010 people have been followed up by the government in their epidemiological investigations. These include 2,220 close contacts, 8,140 “non-core” close contacts, 665 “sub-close” contacts, 332 general contacts and 712 accompanying persons.
The latest round of mass testing started at 9am on Monday and as of 8 am Tuesday, 488,638 people have been tested, of which 388,563 have been cleared as negative. A total of 42 mixed samples have indicated a positive result.
Three citywide mass testing rounds will be conducted this week, on 4 to 5 July, 6 to 7 July and 8 to 9 July respectively. Each testing period runs for 33 hours from 9am on the first day to 6pm on the second day. Children under the age of three do not need to be tested.
The Health Bureau also issued a notice late Monday revealing that at least 40 people who had been at the Shoppes at Four Seasons have tested positive. As a result, the Shoppes at Four Seasons have been ordered closed from 8pm on 4 July until 10 July.
UPDATE: At its daily 5pm press conference on Tuesday afternoon, the Health Bureau provided some further clarity around COVID numbers, revealing that 299 of the 941 reported cases as part of this current outbreak have now recovered.
There were also 50 preliminary positive cases detected on Tuesday, meaning the total number of cases as part of this outbreak will almost certainly move above 1,000 on Wednesday. There are currently two patients on ventilators.
