The average occupancy rate of Macau’s hotels and guesthouses fell by 24.8 percentage points year-on-year and by 18.3 percentage points sequentially to 30.4% in March, impacted by a decrease in overnight visitors.
According to information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC), the number of guests of hotel establishments in March fell by 41.3% year-on-year to 365,000, with mainland Chinese guests down by 50.2% to 269,000. Local guests increased by 23.6% to 70,000.
For the first three quarters of 2022 combined the average occupancy rate of hotels fell by 4.2 percentage points year-on-year to 40.7%. The number of guests declined by 5.6% year-on-year to 1,372,000, although their average length of stay grew by 0.2 nights to 1.9 nights.
DSEC said the number of visitors joining local tours in March also fell by 51.6% year-on-year to 1,700, while for the first quarter those joining local tours surged by 92.6% year-on-year to 11,000.
