Genting Singapore has confirmed it still plans to begin upgrade works at its Singapore integrated resort, Resorts World Sentosa, during the current quarter as part of its SG$4.5 billion (US$3.3 billion) RWS 2.0 expansion project.
Originally announced in February, the company’s efforts were reiterated last week in written responses to shareholder questions ahead of Genting Singapore’s 2022 Annual General Meeting.
In particular, Genting Singapore said the first phase of renovation works on three of its hotels – Hard Rock Hotel Singapore, Hotel Michael and Festive Hotel – would begin in Q2 with Festive Hotel to be “refashioned into a bleisure (business-leisure) and workation (work-vacation) hotel with a variety of mobile working spaces and lifestyle offerings that will meet new work trends.”
Likewise, Resorts World Convention Centre will undergo refurbishment to strengthen RWS’ position as “a leading business destination that continues to meet the requirements of future MICE events,” the company said.
Also getting underway in the June quarter is construction works on Minion Land and Oceanarium – both key expansion initiatives of RWS 2.0. Genting Singapore said the 2.0 expansion was designed to place RWS at the forefront of Singapore’s tourism recovery, although it also noted that Singapore’s recovery trajectory would take time to gather momentum.
“With Singapore’s reopening of borders to all fully vaccinated travellers since 1 April 2022 and further relaxation of COVID-19 related regulations, we are cautiously optimistic of the recovery trajectory in 2022,” it said.
“We expect recovery in travel will initially be led by those visiting friends and relatives and business travellers. Discretionary leisure travel will take time to return to meaningful levels due to limited flight schedules and ongoing COVID-19 related travel rules and restrictions especially on our traditional markets such as China.”
