The number of employees in Macau’s gaming sector, excluding junket promoters and associates, fell by 1,774 people year-on-year to 54,839 full-time employees in 4Q21, although average wages showed a slight increase.
According to information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC), the full-time employees included 24,406 dealers, down by 758, and 4,899 service and sales workers, down by 410.
Average wages, excluding bonuses, of gaming sector employees increased 1.1% to MOP$23,700 [per month] with the average wages of dealers also up 1.1% to MOP$20,020.
While employee numbers declined in Q4, there were still only 58 job vacancies, up from 26 at the end of 2020, of which 41.4% required specific work experience and 27.6% tertiary education. Of those jobs, 98.3% required knowledge of Mandarin and 81.0% knowledge of English.
The employee recruitment rate of 0.2% and employee turnover rate of 0.9% both dropped by 0.1 percentage point year-on-year, while the job vacancy rate stood at 0.1%.
“These indicators reflected that the demand for manpower in the Gaming Sector remained relatively low,” DSEC said.
