Macau’s gross gaming revenue reached MOP$7.76 billion (US$964 million) in February, representing a 6.1% increase over the same month last year and 22.3% higher than January.
However it was still 69.4% lower than in February 2019, when Macau recorded GGR of MOP$25.37 billion (US$3.15 billion).
The improved result follows a strong start to the month over the Spring Festival holiday period, with most operators noting healthy visitation through the week. Information from the Public Security Police force also showed that Macau welcomed 37,229 visitor arrivals last Saturday – its highest single day visitor tally since early January.
However, COVID-19 continues to keep both visitation and GGR well down on 2019 levels with Macau still closed to Hong Kong – currently experiencing its first major outbreak of the pandemic – and maintaining tight border control measures with mainland China.
For the first two months of 2022 combined, Macau’s GGR is MOP$14.10 billion (US$1.75 billion), down 8.0% year-on-year.
