Macau’s Health Bureau has announced that all people aged 12 or above arriving into Macau from Hong Kong or Taiwan must, as of 21 February 2022, show proof that they have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
According to details published this week, to qualify as fully vaccinated each person must have completed an initial series, or double dose, of vaccinations within the previous seven months or show a medical certificate of unsuitability for COVID-19 vaccination. Those who have completed their initial-series vaccination more than seven months prior of their travel to Macau must receive a booster to meet entry requirements.
The Health Bureau noted that most vaccines require a double dose with only a few involving either a single dose or three doses in order to render initial-series protection.
Quarantine measures for those arriving from Hong Kong or Taiwan have not changed with all individuals needing to quarantine for 14 days and 21 days respectively.
The tightening of the entry policy towards Hong Kong and Taiwan comes as Hong Kong reported a record 4,285 new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, plus another 7,000 preliminary positive cases.
