Melco Resorts & Entertainment held a closing award ceremony at City of Dreams Macau on Sunday for its “2021 Guangdong Hong Kong Macau Greater Bay Area Integrated Resort Sustainability Business Case Study Competition – ‘Start Young’ Hospitality Management Professional Challenge” – a competition co-organized with the University of Macau.
‘Start Young’ is Macau’s first integrated resorts business case study competition exploring the theme of sustainability and showcases Melco’s “Above & Beyond” sustainability strategy to participating students.
Aiming to help them better understand on-the-ground business operations and identify sustainable optimization solutions through field visits, the program comprised 22 rounds of onsite visits and two rounds of virtual sustainability seminars and green tours. More than 330 students from 25 high schools and universities in the Greater Bay Area participated in the competition.

“Positioned at the core of Melco’s ‘Above & Beyond’ strategy is Company Chairman & CEO Lawrence Ho’s aim to inspire guests to join us on our sustainability journey – to realize that a sustainable future is a better future for all,” said Melco’s Executive Vice President and Chief of Staff to Chairman & CEO, Akiko Takahashi.
“The ‘Start Young’ initiative aims to help instill the value and significance of sustainable development for students in the Greater Bay Area. This has been a treasured collaboration with the University of Macau in celebration of their 40th anniversary, and we thank Professor Chen for her leadership.”

Professor Jean Chen, Dean of Faculty of Business Administration of the University of Macau, said, “We appreciated the tremendous support from Melco and all supporting organizations to help us realize the ‘Start Young’ competition. The initiative aims to enhance student understanding and interest in business knowledge through site inspection and business case analyses.
“We hope to promote stronger business knowledge to the youth of the Guangdong Hong Kong Macau Greater Bay Area and hope that all participants gained and learned from the competition. We will carry on closely collaborating with the academic community, industry and society, both nationally and internationally, to cultivate talent in Macau and beyond.”
