SJM’s Grand Lisboa Palace will reach another significant development milestone today with the soft opening of THE KARL LAGERFELD hotel tower.
The second of three hotel brands at GLP to welcome guests after the 1,350-room Grand Lisboa Palace Macau hotel, THE KARL LAGERFELD is the only hotel in the world with an interior wholly designed by the late fashion legend.
Its 271 rooms and suites are described as offering an immersive experience of Lagerfeld’s striking design and an “aspirational, cutting-edge approach to style” that harmonizes an East-meets-West elegance.
“The interior design of THE KARL LAGERFELD, with its unique and lavish blend of Chinese and Western aesthetics, showcases the creativity of the legendary designer Karl Lagerfeld, going beyond his widely-known accomplishments in fashion,” said SJM Chairman Daisy Ho.
“We believe that our guests will be impressed by his iconic style that runs throughout the hotel tower. SJM is proud to bring THE KARL LAGERFELD to Macau, a testament to the luxury and uniqueness of the Grand Lisboa Palace, the first integrated resort to introduce a fashion hotel concept to our city’s hospitality scene.”
KARL LAGERFELD CEO Pier Paolo Righi noted that Lagerfeld, who passed away in February 2019 after a battle with cancer, had been able to complete the design of GLP’s hotel prior to his death. It was, Righi said, “A unique interior design project for Karl in China and a labor of love for over five years.
“He was extremely proud to have worked on a luxury project of this magnitude, with a team he loved, to create his vision of ‘Europe meets China.’ It’s also a great point of pride for the brand to carry on his legacy, and we’re thrilled to have brought to life one of the final great accomplishments of his career.”
Attractions within the tower include contemporary Portuguese restaurant Mesa, a café called The Book Lounge, located in the lobby and showcasing more than 4,000 books, and The Spa at THE KARL LAGERFELD.
Already open since GLP’s 30 July launch are the Grand Lisboa Palace Macau hotel, a wellness center with a 25-meter indoor pool, an indoor and outdoor event space covering 3,800 square meters, and a handful of F&B outlets.
It also boasts 150 gaming tables and space for 1,200 slot machines.
