Hoiana, the integrated resort partially owned by Suncity Group and located in Quang Nam Province, will become one of the first hotels to take part in Vietnam’s vaccine passport program when it welcomes almost 430 tourists from the United States this week.
According to local news outlet VN Express, the tourists will arrive via two international flights, with the first carrying 203 passengers due to land at nearby Chu Lai Airport on Wednesday followed by a second carrying 226 passengers on Thursday.
They will stay at Hoiana under quarantine rules for seven days and will be granted access to selected local tourism sites including the historical city of Hoi An and the My Son Sanctuary, both UNESCO heritage sites.
As previously reported by Inside Asian Gaming, Vietnam’s Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has named five cities and provinces – Kien Giang, Khanh Hoa, Quang Nam, Da Nang and Quang Ninh – that are allowed to welcome foreign tourists from this month under the first phase of the country’s roadmap to reopening.
Tourists must, however, be fully vaccinated, book a package tour with a designated travel agency, receive a negative COVID-19 test within 72 hours of departure and confirm their place of residence and where they intend to visit before arriving.
This week’s American arrivals represent some of Vietnam’s first international guests in almost two years, with all international flights having been suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020.
Hoiana held a soft opening in mid-2020 although the lack of international visitation has delayed plans for a grand opening of the IR’s US$1 billion phase one development. Suncity recently reported GGR of US$13 million at Hoiana for the first six months of 2021, improved from US$5.9 million in 2H20.
Phase 1 of Hoiana includes four hotel brands operated by Hong Kong’s Rosewood Hotel Group, Hoiana Residences, a championship golf course designed by Robert Trent Jones II, a number of authentic Asian restaurants and Hoiana Suncity Casino.
