The Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) said the number of single day visitor arrivals reached 30,512 last Friday 29 October, the first time arrivals have exceeded 30,000 since border restrictions were eased on 19 October.
The increase continues an upward trend over the past week, with the MGTO having previously announced an average of 25,000 visitors per day from 20 to 28 October, with a high of 28,299 last Tuesday 26 October.
Those numbers are still rising however, with Friday’s 30,512 followed by another 29,990 arrivals on Saturday.
The MGTO said it has been “devoting relentless promotional efforts to spotlight Macau as a safe and quality destination among Mainland residents,” via social media channels
It is also “forging ahead with different promotional initiatives while strenuously gearing up to stage the Macao Light Festival and the Light up Macao Drone Gala in December.
“The Office is widening the publicity of different upcoming mega events such as the Macau Grand Prix and Macau Food Festival as well as other community activities in November to attract more visitors to Macau for travel and spending, to spur economic revival in local communities and revitalize the tourism industry.”
The steady rise in visitors will be welcome news for Macau’s tourism operators after the DICJ reported gross gaming revenue of just MOP$4.37 billion (US$544 million) in October – the lowest monthly figure since September 2020.
