Sociedade de Jogos de Macau, S.A., the operating entity that holds SJM Holdings’ Macau gaming concession, has announced a change of name to SJM Resorts, Limited.

The new name is reflected across both official languages of Macau with a new Portuguese name of SJM Resorts, S.A. and a Chinese name of 澳娛綜合度假股份有限公司.

The name of parent SJM Holdings, which is listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, remains unchanged.

“The new name better reflects our prominent position in the tourism and leisure business and our dedication to the development and operation of integrated resorts in Macau, further underscoring our continued support to Macau’s role as a ‘world centre of tourism and leisure’,” said SJM Chairman, Daisy Ho.

The newly named SJM Resorts, Limited is wholly-owned by SJM Holdings, which in turn is 54%-owned by Sociedade de Turismo e Diversões de Macau, SA – the company founded by Stanley Ho and his partners in 1962 and which held a monopoly on Macau’s casino business for 40 years until liberalization in 2002.

The name change comes as SJM prepares to launch its HK$39 billion (US$5 billion) Cotai integrated resort, Grand Lisboa Palace, in the coming months.
