The planned travel bubble between Singapore and Hong Kong has been officially postponed once again due to a resurgence of COVID-19 cases in Singapore.
As reported by Inside Asian Gaming on Monday, officials of both nations had revealed over the weekend that the travel bubble, which had been scheduled to start from 26 May 2021 comprising two flights with around 400 people combined each day in each direction, may be put on hold.
With Singapore announcing 38 new cases on Monday, the suspension has now been confirmed. It’s the second time the travel bubble has been put on hold before it began after being cancelled in November due to rising case numbers in Hong Kong.
The travel bubble concept will be revisited by 13 June.
“During this period, both sides will maintain communication, exchange relevant data and review developments closely before deciding on the way forward with the inaugural flights under the [air travel bubble]. A further announcement will be made on or before June 13,” the Hong Kong government said in a statement.
