Macau-based electronic gaming product distributor Asia Pioneer Entertainment is preparing to launch a new business segment that will see Smart Vending Machines installed at various locations around Macau.
The initiative, unveiled as part of APE’s 2020 results announcement last Thursday, is designed to supplement the company’s core gaming interests due to pressures brought by the global COVID-19 pandemic.
With APE reporting a 2020 loss of HK$32 million on a 51% decline in revenue to HK$40.5 million, the new vending machine business will be launched during 1H21 before a “more robust roll-out” in the latter stages of the year.
“The Group has been active in reviewing different business opportunities to supplement its core EGE business,” APE said.
“After extensive market research, the Group plans to launch smart vending machines operations targeting tourists as well as local residents of Macau SAR.
“Smart Vending will use the latest generation of vending machines with coin and electronic payments. Initially Smart Vending will offer soft drinks and snacks which will later expand to travel gift goods and household items. The Group has ordered several smart vending machines for trial and testing, signed agreements with several local product suppliers, and started looking for locations for our smart vending machines in Macau SAR.”
APE said the launch of its Smart Vending Machine business follows a decision to stop pursuing a previously announced sports and entertainment business which would have seen the company sponsor local sports events and launch sports entertainment venues in Macau.
