The deputy director of the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ), Lio Chi Chong, was officially appointed on Wednesday.
Lio replaces his predecessor, Leong Man Ion, who stepped down on 7 January in order to return to his former role as technical advisor for the DICJ. The new Deputy Director is well qualified for the position, having joined the Judiciary Police (PJ) as an investigator in 1999, then changed to the Office for Energy Development and the Office for Personal Data Protection in 2008 and 2010 respectively. He specialized in legal fields before moving to the DICJ in August 2020.
The inauguration of the deputy director was conducted by the DICJ Director, Adriano Ho, who noted that Lio has also carried out work monitoring and applying technologies in the field of gaming venues.
With his background, Ho said he believes Lio has the professional capacity, experience and educational qualifications to act as a leader in the DICJ.
Lio’s appointment means Macau’s gaming regulator is now headed by multiple officials with backgrounds within the Judiciary Police and experience in security forces.
Ho, who replaced Paulo Martins Chan as DICJ Director last June, was key advisor to Macau’s Secretary for Security and headed the Judiciary Police Criminal Investigation Department before joining the regulator.
