Revenue from mass market baccarat plummeted 96.4% to just MOP$1.06 billion (US$132.7 million) in the three months to 30 June 2020, with the impact of COVID-19 resulting in a significant decrease in its contribution to Macau-wide GGR according to quarterly figures released by the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau.
Mass baccarat contributed 31.9% of gross gaming revenue for the quarter, down from 40.2% in the same period in 2019 and from 39.7% in 1Q20, when it provided GGR of MOP$29.61 billion (US$3.71 billion) and MOP$12.15 billion (US$1.52 billion) respectively.
The results reflect the massive decline in visitation to Macau throughout the quarter after Guangdong Province authorities imposed a 14-day mandatory quarantine on all arrivals, including local Guangdong residents, from 27 March 2020. Those restrictions were only eased this week.
Revenue from VIP baccarat fell from MOP$34.62 billion (US$4.34 billion) a year ago to just MOP$1.50 billion (US$187.8 million) in 2Q20, with its share slipping slightly versus 1Q20 from 48.3% to 45.3%.
Revenue from all gaming operations in Macau fell to just MOP$3.32 billion (US$415.7 million) from MOP$73.56 billion (US$9.21 billion) a year earlier.
