Genting Malaysia has announced it will reopen its flagship Malaysian integrated resort, Resorts World Genting (RWG), at 10am this Friday 19 June 2020.
The reopening, coming just days after the company reopened non-gaming properties Resorts World Kijal and Resorts World Langkawi, will see entry into the casino limited to Genting Rewards members only with no date offered for public entry.
It will also see RWG introduce a range of health and safety measures aimed at preventing the spread of COVID-19.
“We have re-engineered our processes and developed a comprehensive safety plan in line with the government’s guidelines and global best practices,” the company said in an announcement posted on the RWG website.
“The RWG StaySafe Promise outlines our enhanced safety plan for the resort. The protocols cover social distancing measures, enhanced cleaning and disinfection processes, as well as the deployment of service ambassadors among others.
“Service ambassadors are specially trained customer-facing employees who will assist and guide returning guests on our enhanced safety measures.”
Another of Genting Malaysia’s non-gaming properties, Resorts World Awana, will also reopen Friday while Awana Skyway cable car and Genting express buses will resume operations.
All four locations had been shuttered since Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin first implemented a nationwide Movement Control Order on 18 March.
Japanese brokerage Nomura said the long-awaited reopening of RWG could see a rapid spike in visitation.
“We believe that with >70% of visitors to Genting Highlands being locals, some pent-up demand could return now as the resort resumes operations despite closed international borders,” said analysts Tushar Mohata and Alpa Aggarwal.
According to a Bursa Malaysia filing, Genting Malaysia opened retail shopping outlets at Resorts World Birmingham in England this week with preparations underway to open casino facilities at the majority of its UK operations from 4 July, as per indications from British authorities.
US casinos Resorts World New York City and Resorts World Catskills remain temporarily shuttered.
