The Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) will announce a second designated quarantine hotel “in a suitable time” as the sole quarantine venue currently being used for returning residents, Pousada Marina Infante Hotel, nears capacity.
A total of 316 people were staying in the 298-room Pousada Marina Infante Hotel as of Tuesday for their 14-day mandatory medical observation, including 197 locals, 26 non-resident workers and 93 visitors.
MGTO officials explained that 10 rooms are still available as around 40 people in quarantine are underage and staying with their families in the same rooms.
“Between 10 and 20 people have checked into the hotel every day and several people have checked out every day,” said head of the MGTO Licensing and Inspection Department, Ines Chan Lou. “The government will announce the second designated medical observation hotel in a suitable time.”
She did not mention which hotel would become the second designated quarantine venue, but noted it would be one of hotels previously used.
The SAR government had at one stage utilized 12 hotels for the purpose of medical quarantine, with Pousada Marina Infante Hotel joined by Golden Crown China Hotel, Regency Art Hotel, Grand Coloane Resort, Metropole Hotel, Treasure Hotel, San Tung Fong Commercial Inn South Wing, Grand Lapa Hotel, Grand Harbour Hotel, Royal Dragon Hotel, Jai Alai Hotel and Sands China’s Sheraton Grand Macao at Sands Cotai Central.
