Hengqin New Area will distribute RMB20 million (US$2.8 million) worth of e-coupons to visitors and offer RMB40 million (US$5.6 million) in subsidies for local hotels and tourists, aiming to stimulate local tourism industries during the Labour Day Holiday.
Mainland China will have a 5-day “Labour Day Golden Week” from 1 to 5 May this year. Tourist spots are traditionally crowded and hotels were fully booked for Labour Day, but local tourism industries continue to be impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
As a result, the Hengqin government has decided to offer visitors in Guangdong province a total of RMB20 million in e-coupons through registration and lottery, and will subsidize several hotels and spots with maximum RMB$1 million for providing discounts.
The Macau government had promised to jointly work with Hengqin in promoting collaborative tourism once the epidemic is under control, however Guangdong province still requires a 14-day mandatory quarantine for all people arriving from Macau, which has halted most visitor interactions between Macau and Zhuhai.
