The Macau government has reserved MOP$3.2 billion for the next phase of economic stimulus measures as it looks to develop more initiatives to support the tourism and hotel industries.
The Secretary for Economy and Finance, Lei Wei Nong, told the Legislative Assembly on Monday the government is studying ways to promote greater collaboration between the tourism industry and the local cultural and creative sectors to encourage tourists to stay longer in Macau.
“Our goal is [to have visitors] stay one more night, visit one more day,” Lei said.
Lei emphasized that the government will attempt to integrate tourism and leisure resources and launch more discounts and incentives in order to inject greater impetus into Macau’s economy once the COVID-19 pandemic subsides.
The Secretary added Macau would gradually recover tourism interactions with Hong Kong and mainland China once the situation becomes more stable.
