The shuttle bus service linking Macau and Hong Kong via the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge has suspended operations from Monday 6 April as part of the latest measures to slow the spread of COVID-19, meaning there is no longer any public transport linking the two cities.
“Golden Bus” – a joint venture between Shun Tak Holdings Ltd and CITS Coach (Macao) Limited – announced over the weekend that it will suspend services until further notice as border restrictions to and from the SARs grow ever tighter.
The Macau frontier port with Zhuhai and Hong Kong has also reduced its operating hours, now open from 10am to 8pm each day, while the Macau government has shut down the east car park of the bridge which specifically provided for vehicles from Hong Kong and Zhuhai.
Ferry services between Macau and Hong Kong have already been suspended since 4 February.
Macau recently imposed a 14-day mandatory quarantine for all Hong Kong arrivals while Hong Kong has refused any Macau residents from entering. The latest suspension of the “Golden Bus” service indicates that Hong Kong residents are no longer allowed to enter Macau via public transport either.
On the back of tighter border restrictions, Macau authorities have now reduced the number of hotels designated for quarantined arrivals to 11 with the Metropole Hotel no longer on the list. With all guests having now finished their 14-day medical observation, health officials have ordered the hotel to be cleaned, disinfected and removed from the designated quarantine hotel list.
