Nagasaki’s Prefectural Budget Committee Summary Q&A has claimed that if the Huis Ten Bosch area in Sasebo City, Nagasaki is certified in 2021, an IR could be open as early as 2025.
The assumed schedule follows the implementation policy draft released last December. After the government’s basic IR policy is decided, the prefecture’s implementation policy will be finalized and published this year.
Under Nagasaki’s schedule, there will be an open recruitment call for operators from April to autumn after which the selection committee will choose its operator partner and submit a joint application to the central government sometime between 4 January 2021 and July 2021. If certified, the facility, to be located on a parcel of land alongside the Huis Ten Bosch theme park, will open sometime between April 2025 and March 2026.
The prefecture estimates that the capital investment for an IR facility would be between JPY 350 billion (US$3.35 billion) to JPY 460 billion (US$4.41 billion).
The total number of annual visitors will be between 6.9 million and 9.3 million, with 28,000 to 36,000 jobs created.
Nagasaki has already received proposals during their Request for Concept (RFC) from Current (Hong Kong), Oshidori International (Hong Kong), and Casinos Austria (Austria).
