Gross gaming revenue from VIP baccarat rebounded slightly in the three months to 31 December 2019, rising 4.0% compared with third quarter GGR to MOP$32.32 billion according to figures released by the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ) on Thursday.
The improvement saw VIP baccarat increase its contribution to Macau’s total GGR of MOP$72.38 billion in 4Q19 to 44.7%, up from 43.1% in the previous quarter, while mass baccarat GGR, coming in at MOP$30.71 billion, comprised 42.4% of total revenue compared with 43.1% in 3Q19.
However, VIP baccarat GGR was still well down on the same period in 2018, declining 23.0% year-on-year from the MOP$42.01 billion it recorded in 4Q18. Conversely, GGR from mass baccarat increased 10.1% year-on-year from MOP$27.90 billion in the prior year quarter.
As reported by Inside Asian Gaming, revenue from mass baccarat essentially drew level with VIP baccarat in 2019, having previously comprised just 35.3% of Macau’s total GGR in the fourth quarter of 2018 versus the 53.2% that VIP baccarat was responsible for at the time.
According to the government’s latest figures, Macau’s 4Q19 GGR of MOP$72.38 billion represented an 8.4% year-on-year decline.
