The Galaxy Entertainment EuroJapan Cup 2019 took place on Saturday, with English champions Manchester City beating Yokohama F. Marinos 3-1 in front of 65,052 fans at a sold-out Yokohama Nissan Stadium.
Sponsored by Galaxy Entertainment Group, the build-up to the event was highlighted by the “Galaxy Entertainment Junior Soccer Cup” tournament, an initiative aimed at strengthening ties with the local community and supporting young soccer players.
The “Galaxy Entertainment Junior Soccer Cup” saw more than 300 youth players from 32 Under-8 and Under-10 soccer teams from Yokohama city take part, with two teams in each age category from a qualifying tournament held on 15 July advancing to the final.
Held at Yokohama Nissan Stadium before the Manchester City-Yokohama F. Marinos clash, the finals saw Noba KC prevail in the U-8 category and Mamedo FC victorious in the U-10 group.
Players from all four junior teams to reach the finals were also given the honor of escorting the players from Manchester City and Yokohama F. Marinos onto the pitch. The winning junior captains were awarded their winners’ trophies at half-time by Galaxy Entertainment Japan COO Ted Chan, who also presented the Galaxy Entertainment EuroJapan Cup 2019 winners’ trophy to the Manchester City captain and the “Most Valuable Player” award to City’s Raheem Sterling.
“It was thrilling to see this exciting clash between two of the world’s best soccer teams, English Premier League champions Manchester City and Yokohama F. Marinos, here in Japan, and we are happy the event was such a success,” Chan said.
“It has been an honor being able to bring such world-class sports entertainment to Japan and such enjoyment to local communities and junior players in Yokohama.
“GEG will be supporting various sports and entertainment events as part of our IR business development in Japan and providing world class entertainment here, as well as showcasing Japan’s attractiveness to the world. We hope to support the further development of sports in Japan and contribute to local communities here for many years to come.”
