The number of visitors to Macau during the first six months of 2019 grew 20.6% year-on-year to 20,284,633, although their average length of stay declined.
According to information released by the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC), the number of visitors arriving on a day trip increased 34.2% to 10,798,806 while those staying overnight rose 8.2% to 9,485,827. The average length of stay fell by 0.1 days to 1.1 days.
Chinese visitation for the six months was up 22.3% to 14,314,457, from Hong Kong by 23.2% to 3,694,910 and from Taiwan by 2.0% to 535,597.
The trend for shorter stays appears to be on the increase, with 50.6% of the 3,095,853 who arrived in Macau in June being same day visitors, an increase of 6.2 percentage points.
The total number of people arriving in Macau in June was up 18.9% with same day arrivals rising 35.4% year-on-year to 1,567,434 and overnight visitors by 5.7% to 1,528,419. Visitors from mainland China increased by 19.9% year-on-year to 2,100,557.
