The number of visitors entering Macau during the first three days of the Labour Day holiday from 1 to 3 May grew 37.0% year-on-year to 531,503 people, including a 42.7% increase in those from mainland China to 436,679.
This year’s holiday was boosted by an extra day when compared to the three day Labour Day holiday in 2018, with provisional statistics from the Public Security Police Force showing a total of 636,644 across the full holiday period. When compared to 2018, the first three days of 2019’s Labour Day holidays included a 7.8% increase in visitors from Hong Kong to 48,562 and a 25.8% increase from other markets to 46,262.
Macau’s hotels benefited from the influx with capacity reaching 96.2%, representing a 1.9 percentage point rise over last year, whole room rates also grew 16.7% to an average of MOP$1,882.20.
