The Corona Resort and Casino in Phu Quoc is set to become the first Vietnamese casino to allow locals to gamble following reports that it will open its doors this weekend.
According to the property’s website, Corona will boast 100 gaming tables upon launch, including baccarat, roulette, blackjack, sic bo and forms of poker, as well as 1,000 slot machines. It will also offer VIP facilities via a “private sky casino”, a KTV and three restaurants.
News of the locals-friendly casino comes after the government announced in late 2016 the implementation of a three-year pilot program under which certain locals would be allowed to gamble in three specific casinos of the government’s choice. The other two properties include one being developed near Hanoi by Vietnamese firm Sun Group and another in the Van Don Special Administrative Economic Zone.
Locals must be 21, earn a minimum of VND10 million (US$430) and pay an entry fee to gamble.
Corona is managed by Dutch firm Uppfinity Gaming Management and was reportedly designed by renowned US architectural firm Steelman Partners.
