MGM Resorts International has appointed former Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval as President of Global Gaming Development, tasked with driving the company’s global expansion efforts with a particular focus on Japan.
Having served as Governor for eight years from 2011 to 2019, Sandoval’s achievements included reinstituting the US state’s Gaming Policy Committee and as a leading voice in favor of the legalization of sports gaming. He also focused heavily on international outreach, hosting multiple international delegations in Nevada and leading 18 trade missions to 16 countries on six continents.
His appointment will see MGM Resorts President Bill Hornbuckle lead global casino marketing, a role that will see him responsible for driving revenue growth and maximizing the value contributed from the company’s global assets. Hornbuckle’s marketing focus will also target MGM’s overall growth in Macau.
Discussing the new management structure, MGM Resorts Chairman and CEO Jim Murren said, “Few leaders are as widely respected, accomplished and knowledgeable as Brian Sandoval and we couldn’t be more excited to have him as part of the MGM family.
“Governor Sandoval brings an unparalleled level of skill, leadership and experience to the company and we will benefit greatly from his in-depth expertise in gaming, public policy and economic development.
“Likewise, Bill Hornbuckle has a proven record of developing and implementing marketing strategies that excite and entertain in ways that translate to revenue enhancement and value creation. We are pleased that, with the recent launch of MGM 2020, a business operations and digital transformation program, Bill can enhance his focus on the vital role of leading global casino marketing so we can expand our market share in Las Vegas and abroad.”
Hornbuckle has served as the President of MGM Resorts since 2012, having previously been Chief Marketing Officer between 2009 and 2012 in which time he oversaw the creation of the M life Rewards loyalty program.
