The Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) says it is working closely with the Public Security Police Force to increase the number of inspections of visitors at the city’s entry points and crackdown on any businesses looking to exploit tourists during the upcoming Golden Week.
According to an announcement on Wednesday, the MGTO will “conduct more thorough inspections at different local tourist attractions, ports of entry and districts while joining hands with police authorities to combat illegal accommodation, with MGTO inspectors standing by for prompt action round the clock.”
It has also sent letters to tourism and related businesses reminding them of their obligations in regards to hygiene, fire safety, guest capacity, opening hours, occupational guidelines for tour group reception, requirements for price-list declaration of hotels and catering establishments, requirements for hotel record keeping of guest information upon check-in and guidelines on management of hotel swimming-pools – all with the aim of safeguarding “visitor rights and tourism quality.”
Among the MGTO’s initiatives to ease congestion will be the streaming of live video at entry points, while visitors will receive live text messages when in major tourist areas including Praça de Ferreira do Amaral, Nam Van Lake and Rua do Campo, advising them to avoid visiting the congested area at that moment.
