Japan’s IR Implementation Bill is expected to finally become law today after passing one last hurdle on Thursday. The IR bill, which allows for the development of Japan’s first integrated resorts in three yet-to-be-specified locations, passed through the Cabinet Committee of the House of Councillors, but not before opposition parties made one last attempt to halt progress.
The Constitutional Party of Japan was among a small group of opponents to submit a no-confidence motion against House of Councillors President Chuichi Date claiming he had prioritized enactment of the IR bill over focusing on disaster assistance amid widespread flooding across the nation. The motion was quickly voted down.
It has been reported that opposition parties have also prepared a motion against Prime Minister Shinzo Abe to prevent passage of the bill, however the LDP looks set to pass the bill during a full session of the Upper House today.
Inside Asian Gaming revealed on Wednesday that the IR Implementation Bill was a “done deal” and ready to be enacted.
