Commingling helps Hong Kong Jockey Club set turnover records in 2017/18 season
Print Friendly, PDF & Email

The Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC) recorded record turnover for the 2017/18 racing season with the HK$124.2 billion wagered representing a 5.8% year-on-year increase.

The 88-day season culminated on Sunday with turnover for the day reaching HK$1.94 billion – the highest ever for an 11-race card – and commingling setting another record at HK$335 million.

In total, the amount wagered with commingling partners throughout the season soared by 154.8% to HK$16.5 billion, up from HK$6.5 billion in 2016/17. Commingling turnover includes everything bet into the Hong Kong pools from foreign territories.

“We are delighted with another record season, one of our most exciting seasons both on and off the track,” said HKJC CEO Winfried Engelbrecht-Bresges.

“Commingling is quickly changing the global landscape and that is seen in the fact that it made up 13.3% of our season’s turnover this year compared to 5.5% last year. [On Sunday] we reached a new record of HK$335 million for a single race meeting, a truly extraordinary mark. It is now a significant driver to Hong Kong’s turnover and that is due to the ever-increasing international interest in our racing product, which is proving to be attractive as an exciting sports option founded upon the highest integrity.”
