Hainan Airlines approved to fly direct to Las Vegas REGIONAL BRIEFS John DeCree said he expected other carriers to follow suit in the near future. “Ultimately, we believe the Hainan Airlines Beijing-Las Vegas route is just the tip of the iceberg as it relates to direct service between Las Vegas and China. We would expect more carriers to begin connecting Las Vegas to other Chinese cities with direct flights in the coming months,” he said. The 13 opening delayed to 2017 The opening of Macau’s ultra-luxury The 13 hotel has been delayed until early 2017. Making the announcement on the same day as the property confirmed it has taken delivery of its fleet of 30 Rolls-Royce Phantoms – the largest single order ever produced by the famous UK car company – The 13 gave no reason for the date change, having previously anticipated opening in late 2016. There has been widespread speculation about the future of The 13 given the dramatic fall in VIP visitation to Macau since the project was first announced. However, publicists were quick to spread the word about the arrival of its Rolls-Royce fleet, worth US$20 million. “The livery applied to each of The 13 Phantoms comprises a specially formulated ‘Stephen Red’ exterior paint developed to the exacting requirements of Mr Hung, complemented by a hand- painted gold twin coach line that culminates in a specially designed The 13 motif,” it said in a statement. “The Bespoke 21” wheels are also finished in ‘Stephen Red’. “Included in the fleet are two ‘Gold’ Phantoms, which will be reserved for use by select guests, each featuring a gold Spirit of Ecstasy, gold Pantheon grille, gold interior accents and diamond encrusted Rolls-Royce badge. Additionally, the ‘Stephen Red’ paint that is used for the ‘Gold’ Phantoms is infused with fine particles of pure gold. “The stunning exterior theme of the fleet is elegantly echoed in an exquisitely crafted interior. A specially developed wood staining technique evokes the ‘Stephen Red’ color scheme, whilst a chequered pattern integrated to the rear seats echo the marble entrance hall motif of The 13. The clock was designed in collaboration with master jeweller Graff.” China’s Hainan Airlines will become the first carrier to fly directly from China to Las Vegas after the US Department of Transportation officially approved the route. From 2 December 2016, Hainan Airlines will fly three times a week – each Monday, Wednesday and Friday – with economy fares ranging from US$650 to US$1,100 return. It is estimated that around 300,000 Chinese visit Las Vegas each year, with the new route to allow around 10% of these passengers to arrive directly. However, Union Gaming analyst
