The Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) and Macau’s six concessionaires will visit Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, this Friday to hold their latest tourism roadshow.
Aiming to boost international visitation to the SAR, the MGTO has over the past 18 months revived its large-scale roadshow campaign for international source markets, with Malaysia seen as a key target market. This week’s roadshow will take place at Sunway Pyramid Shopping Mall in Kuala Lumpur from 5 to 8 July, with the concessionaires all setting up booths to promote Macau’s many tourism attractions and facilities.
The MGTO will also cooperate with local travel agencies in Malaysia to promote Macau travel packages at discounted prices.
Since the reopening of Macau on 8 January 2023, air links with foreign countries have gradually been restored with the tourism body making every effort to expand visitor source markets in Southeast Asia in accordance with the policy direction of the SAR. In the first half of this year, the MGTO has organized large-scale promotions in Japan, Singapore, Indonesia, Korea and Thailand.
According to data from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC), a total of 39,839 Malaysian tourists visited Macau in the first quarter of 2024, making it the third largest international source market after the Philippines and Korea. However, compared to the same quarter in 2019 (56,239), the number has only recovered to 71%.
