Macau concessionaire Galaxy Entertainment Group (GEG) has announced the closure of two of its satellite casinos, Rio Casino and President Casino, from midnight at the beginning of today, Thursday 16 June.

The company noted that Rio and President are currently conducting internal inventory and staff will be transferred to other locations.

The casinos are part of GEG’s City Clubs group, which also includes Casino Waldo on the Macau peninsula. GEG noted that “employees who are part of the GEG team will be reassigned to other casinos within the Group, with all employment terms remaining unchanged.

“They will also be provided with a series of vocational training to help them adapt to the new working environment.

“We are grateful for the support and love of the public, our customers from all walks of life of Rio Casino and President Casino over the years, and we will continue to contribute to the leisure and tourism industry in Macau.”

The decision to close the properties down follows recent changes to Macau’s gaming law which require satellite casinos to move towards a model in which they operate as management companies on a management services basis only, with no revenue share to be allowed after a three-year transitional period.

A number of satellite casinos have already announced plans to close, including the four casinos under Golden Dragon Group and the casino at Grand Emperor Hotel.
