SkyCity Auckland, the flagship property of New Zealand’s SkyCity Entertainment Group, will be allowed to operate without any restrictions from Thursday 8 October after the New Zealand government announced it will be dropping its COVID-19 alert from Level 2 to Level 1.
The easing of restrictions comes after Auckland reached 10 consecutive days without any new locally acquired COVID-19 infections, suggesting a recent second wave of the virus is now under control.
SkyCity Auckland shut down casino operations in mid-August as a new outbreak was discovered in the nation’s largest city, forcing Level 3 restrictions which saw bars and businesses closed, gatherings restricted to 10 people and travel in and out of Auckland mostly prohibited.
The casino reopened in late August for rewards members only. SkyCity’s casinos in Hamilton and Queenstown have been operating without restrictions since mid-September.
