All provinces in mainland China will resume the approval of visas to Macau under the Individual Visit Scheme (IVS) from today (23 September), however tourists arriving as part of package tours are required to enter and exit via the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge (HZMB) or the new Hengqin Port, the government says.
Other visitors are permitted to use all open borders, including Gongbei Port. Ferry services between Macau and Shenzhen also resumed last week.
Visitors arriving under IVS will be required to provide a negative COVID-19 test result obtained within the previous seven days while also showing a “green” health code.
IVS applications were reinstated for Zhuhai from 12 August and for all of Guangdong Province from 26 August.
Macau’s gaming and tourism operators are hoping the upcoming Golden Week holiday will prove a catalyst for a significant improvement in visitation and subsequent gaming revenues after GGR declined by more than 90% year-on-year in each of the past five months, including a 94.5% fall in August.
