Could London be the latest city to feature on the Cotai skyline? That’s certainly the case according to a report by Macau Business which cites an unnamed source claiming Sands China’s Sands Cotai Central (SCC) property will soon be revamped to resemble England’s capital city.
According to the report, the four hotel towers of SCC – St Regis, Sheraton, Conrad and Holiday Inn – are at the heart of the concept which is aimed at providing another unique tourist attraction to lure more Chinese visitors.
Sands China already boasts two iconic themed integrated resorts located directly across the road from SCC – the Venice-themed Venetian Macao opened in 2007 and Paris-themed Parisian Macao opened last year.
“The decision is done, it’s now just a matter of starting to work on it,” Macau Business reported the Sands China source as saying.
It is not yet known exactly what shape the theme might take although it is reported that London’s famous red buses will feature prominently while “the four towers will host several characteristic features of the United Kingdom’s capital city.” It has been suggested that the hotel towers could be reimagined to resemble iconic London landmarks such as Big Ben.
Sands China is yet to confirm or deny the report.
If true, it could be in response to falling revenues at SCC amid increased competition from its sister property The Parisian as well as the recently opened Wynn Palace and Studio City. MGM Cotai is also due to open its doors before the end of 2017.
SCC saw its revenue fall by 5.9% in the second quarter to US$445 million.
