GEORGE TOWN, MALAYSIA: Police crippled an illegal online gambling syndicate after raids in four cyber cafes led to the seizure of 85 computers functioning as slot machines.
The raids, which were conducted at about 10pm on Thursday and 5.15pm yesterday, also saw the arrest of seven people at the cyber cafes in Bukit Jambul.
A total of 50 computers were seized from the Bukit Jambul premises while 11 and 24 computers were seized in Tanjung Tokong and Jelutong respectively.
State police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Wira Ayub Yaakob said the police had identified the operators.
On another matter, he urged the local authorities to identify a zone for entertainment outlets in order to ease the police’s monitoring work.
“I’ve written to the state government to appeal for a specified zone so that the police can control such activities,” he said.
