Crown Resorts has issued a public warning against imposter and fraudulent social media accounts and advertisements it says have been falsely using Crown’s name, logo, photos and other identifying information to advertise illegal online gambling sites.
In a statement, the Australian casino operator urged the community to be cautious of such advertisements and to always refer to Crown’s official websites and social media channels for news and promotions.
“In Australia, it is illegal to operate an online casino or to provide casino-style games online,” the company said. “Crown does not operate an online casino or provide online gambling in any form.
“Crown will not hesitate to take legal action against individuals or groups who organise illegal schemes using the Crown brand or any of its subsidiaries.”
Crown is currently in the midst of a comprehensive reform agenda across its integrated resorts in Melbourne, Sydney and Perth as it looks to win back its casino licenses following damning inquiries held in all three states.
Most recently the company introduced mandatory time and loss limits for all gaming patrons using electronic gaming machines at Crown Melbourne – one of the many recommendations of the Finkelstein Royal Commission which deemed Crown unsuitable to hold its Victorian casino license pending a two-year review under the watch of a Special Manager.
A decision on Crown’s reform efforts is due in 2024.
