Macau welcomed a post-pandemic high of 158,726 visitor arrivals on Saturday, up 473% year-on-year in what was a promising start to this year’s eight-day Golden Week holiday period.
According to figures from the Public Security Police Force, this took the total number of arrivals for the first two days of Golden Week to 246,815 after there were 88,089 arrivals on Friday. By comparison, visitor arrivals over the first two days of the holiday period are up 394% over the same period in 2022 but down 4.2% on the 257,600 arrivals across the first two days in 2019.
This year’s figures include 166,839 arrivals from mainland China, up 329% year-on-year and comprising 67.6% of the total, with 60,668 arrivals on Friday and 106,171 on Saturday.
Arrivals from Hong Kong are up 1,575% year-on-year to 61,421, of which there were 20,179 arrived on Friday and 41,242 on Saturday.
Of the total 246,815 visitor arrivals across the first two days of Golden Week, 80,143 entered via the Border Gate, while another 57,294 entered via the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge and 38,706 via the Hengqin Port. There were also 15,770 arrivals by air.
Macau’s Gaming Inspection Bureau (DICJ) published its monthly GGR results on Sunday which showed September gaming revenues declining month-on-month, however analysts estimate October will see the highest revenue results of the year on the back of the Golden Week holiday period.
