Singapore Changi Airport revealed this week it handled 5.12 million passenger movements in June 2023, crossing the five million mark for the first time since January 2020 and representing 88% of passenger movements in June 2019.
Aircraft movements also reached 88% with 27,500 takeoffs and landings, authorities said.
The June figure took total passenger movements for the second quarter to 14.6 million or 87% of 2Q19 levels, while aircraft movements reached 86% at 81,400. The top five traffic markets, provided in alphabetical order, were Australia, India, Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand. There was also steady improvement in traffic from Northeast Asia which grew from 50% of pre-COVID levels in January to 75% in June.
“Changi Airport continues to witness steady growth in passenger traffic, with passenger movements inching closer to 90% of 2019 levels as we close the second quarter,” said Lim Ching Kiat, Changi Airport Group’s Executive Vice President for Air Hub and Cargo Development.
“We are pleased to have crossed the five-million mark again in June with the mid-year holiday season. Changi has regained more than 80% of its pre-COVID city links and we look forward to strengthening connectivity to more points in Southeast Asia and China in the second half of the year.”
As of 1 July 2023, there were 99 airlines operating over 6,300 weekly scheduled flights at Changi Airport, connecting Singapore to 148 cities in 49 countries and territories worldwide, according to Changi Airport Group.
