New casino launches in Macau are going to be a bit thin on the ground in the next few years compared to the flurry of activity seen in 2006 and 2007, when no fewer than nine properties opened their doors.
It’s no surprise, therefore, that Wynn Resorts is making the most of the opening of Encore at Wynn Macau this week. Barring any problems with volcanic ash clouds, Steve Wynn the company chairman, will be attending, along with fellow Wynn director Kazuo Okada, the founder of Aruze Gaming.
Media participation in the opening day is to be spread over more than ten hours, from registration at 10am to the fireworks display at 8.08pm, with a four-hour gap in the middle. Perhaps the schedule is designed to get journalists—notorious for their love of supplementing their generally meagre incomes via expenses—to try their luck on the main gaming floor at next-door Wynn Macau.
