Philippines gaming regulator PAGCOR has issued a public advisory warning against “unscrupulous groups” offering POGO-related employment to both local and foreign nationals.
According to the advisory, these groups have been posting job advertisements via social media groups, dating apps and messaging applications looking for prospective Customer Service Representatives with experience in cryptocurrency trading. The advertisements offer high-paying jobs with attractive benefits but the work instead involves scam activities.
PAGCOR has therefore warned the public to be vigilant and cautious of such job advertisements, noting that online dating services and cryptocurrency investments are not part of the authorized acts of its Offshore Gaming Licensees and Service Providers.
“PAGCOR advocates for responsible gaming only through legitimate online gaming operations,” it said.
The advisory comes after PAGCOR revoked the license of a POGO service provider operating out of Sun Valley Clark after an inter-agency investigation found the gaming hub was party to a range of criminal activities including “cryptocurrency investment scams, serious illegal detention and human trafficking activities”.
Oriental Game, the licensed POGO under which CGC was operating, was also fined for “failure to ensure the legitimate conduct of CGC’s business.”
