Japanese gaming company Konami has entered into a licensing agreement with Australian-based gaming product manufacturer Independent Gaming that will see the latter provided with access to Konami’s facial recognition technology.
According to information released by Konami on Wednesday morning (Asia time), its facial recognition technology – first unveiled at G2E in 2019 as an add-on module to its SYNKROS casino management system – enables players to sign into the SYNKROS player loyalty system at EGMs and table games simply by sitting down in the chair.
This differs from traditional loyalty systems which require the use of a magnetic player card.
Konami said its agreement with Independent Gaming is aimed at making the technology available to more players and properties worldwide.
“Our IP agreement for facial recognition use in all our NEXTNET gaming systems continues the advancement in our technology,” said Independent Gaming Managing Director, Lawrence Shepherd.
“The benefits of biometrics within our player systems produces many possibilities for player functions and operators … and ensures our gaming customers have decisive access to key facial recognition solutions.”
Konami’s Executive Vice President and COO, Tom Jingoli, added, “As Konami continues to invest in future innovation, we are excited for the opportunity to make our facial recognition intellectual property available to operators across diverse global markets in different forms. We appreciate the shared collaboration with Independent Gaming on this agreement.”
