Targeting Hong Kong students, the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) is looking to launch a new initiative called “Tourism + Study” in order to attract Hong Kong students to learn more about Macau’s history and culture – the latest in a series of initiatives launched in recent weeks.
Since the relaxation of Macau’s anti-epidemic policy on 8 January, Hong Kong has become the second largest source of visitors to Macau. According to a report released by VISA earlier, Macau is also the 7th most popular tourist destination in Hong Kong.
After the relaxation of the policy, the MGTO invited 19 Hong Kong internet celebrities to Macau and later invited 30 journalists from Hong Kong travel magazines and newspapers to introduce the latest tourism products of Macau.
The MGTO said, “The effectiveness of Hong Kong Internet celebrities’ promotion is obvious and has generated heated discussions in Hong Kong, as the 19 Hong Kong Internet celebrities have posted 290 posts or limited-time updates on social media including Facebook, Instagram and Youtube, reaching more than 2.7 million people, with 89,109 interactions and nearly 3 million views.”
The MGTO also pointed out that this year’s promotion will be targeted at “families, couples, young people and high-end consumers.”
The latest initiative, “Tourism + Study”, combines Macau’s tourism resources in the form of “education with tourism”, allowing participating Hong Kong students to gain a better understanding of Macau’s history and culture.
