Australian-based specialist gambling law, regulatory, and compliance advisory, Senet, has announced that a new global standard aimed at protecting venues from risks associated with gambling-related harm and money laundering is set to launch with the assessment of its first candidate.
Norths Collective, which runs pubs and clubs around Australia including North Sydney Leagues Club and Seagulls Tweed Heads, will become the first to complete assessment under the Senet Assure program, with CEO Luke Simmons stating, “Norths Collective currently operates eight hospitality venues throughout NSW, Australia. This partnership is a great opportunity to strengthen the commitment we have to our employees and community in upholding strong ethical practices, choosing to prioritise the ongoing safety and wellbeing of all members and guests over short-term gains.”
Senet Assure is a compliance accreditation program developed by Senet and aimed at ensuring operators who undertake evaluation are exceeding their regulatory obligations.
The concept follows the recent regulatory inquiries into casino operators Crown Resorts and Star Entertainment Group and comes as debate continues to rage around how to minimize risks in NSW pubs and clubs in the wake of a damning report.
“Assessing pristine policies at a point in time isn’t sufficient,” said Senet Principal, Paul Newson.
“Senet Assure involves comprehensive evaluation, and crucial to its accreditation are its assurance activities where the effectiveness of operational policies are tested in practice.
“Simply put, operators that can’t demonstrate the highest level of vigilance towards combating financial crime risks and prioritizing responsible gambling outcomes won’t meet our accreditation standards.”
Newson added that as well as safeguarding corporate reputation and minimising the risks of gambling harm and financial crime, achieving accreditation via the program helps uplift the sector and support industry leadership and sustainability.
