The Macau government announced that starting from Saturday, people coming to Macau from foreign countries, Hong Kong and Taiwan will be subject to a five-day home isolation and three-day departure limit.
According to information released midday Friday and in line with mainland’s pandemic prevention policy, measures for people coming to Macau from foreign countries, Hong Kong and Taiwan have been relaxed with the five-day centralized quarantine measure changed to five days of home isolation.
For foreigners, Hong Kong and Taiwan visitors, the health code will be changed to red upon entry into Macau and they will be tested upon arrival.
IAG‘s current understanding of the new rules is as follows. From tomorrow, arrivals to Macau:
- Need (1) a NAT within 48 hours prior to the arrival day, and (2) sufficient RATs on hand upon entry
- No longer need a hotel quarantine booked or tests to be prepaid on arrival
- May not leave Macau until 00:00 on the 9th day after arrival (after 3 day departure limit)
- Will have a red health code for the first 3 days, yellow code for days 4 and 5, and a green code thereafter (assuming all tests are negative)
- Must conduct RATs on days 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 and upload to the Macau Health Bureau platform
- Must conduct a NAT on day 3
This latest measure is the biggest step yet by authorities towards reopening Macau to the world and follows a similar path taken in Hong Kong, where hotel quarantine was initially replaced by a three-day medical surveillance isolation measure instead, at home or in a hotel. Hong Kong this week abolished the home isolation requirement altogether.
