Macau’s hotel room occupancy rate decreased by 3% year-on-year to 41.8% in October, with the average occupancy rates of 4-star and 2-star hotels declining more sharply, by 20% and 18.6% respectively.
However, October’s rate was 4.2 percentage points higher than September, when the hotel occupancy rate was 37.6%.
According to information from Statistics and Census Service (DSEC), there were 118 hotel establishments providing accommodation services to the public in October, an increase of two establishments year-on-year, and the number of available rooms rose by 2.5% to 37,000.
Although the occupancy rate fell in October, hotel guests increased by 11.3% year-on-year to 494,000, of which 390,000 were mainland residents, up 15% year-on-year, while 70,000 were local residents, down 11.1% year-on-year. The average length of stay decreased by 0.2 nights to 1.7 nights.
For the first 10 months of 2022 combined, the average occupancy rate of hotel establishments dropped 12% year-on-year to 37.9%, while the number of guests decreased by 22.5% to 4.248 million. The average length of stay remained at 1.8 nights.
