Macau visitor arrivals down slightly in May to 600,748

Macau welcomed a total of 600,748 visitor arrivals in May, down 1% month-on-month and by 30.6% compared with May 2021, according to information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC).

May’s total included 358,920 same-day visitors, down 8.5% year-on-year, and 241,828 overnight visitors, down 49.0% year-on-year, with their average length of stay falling by 0.7 days year-on-year to 0.9 days.

Of the 600,748 total visitor arrivals in May, 538,458 were from mainland China with 76,171 of those travelling under the Individual Visit Scheme. There were 404,141 visitors from the nine cities in the Pearl River Delta of which 55.0% came from Zhuhai.

In the first five months of 2022 combined, the number of visitor arrivals to Macau was down by 9.3% year-on-year to 3,084,436. Overnight visitors (1,103,491) fell by 40.1% year-on-year, while same-day visitors (1,980,945) increased by 27.3%. The average length of stay of visitors decreased by 0.5 days year-on-year to 1.2 days.
